The renovation of teacher’s housing from the 70s with four residential units provided an opportunity to extend the house and create six additional residential units that meet contemporary living standards. The apartments are always oriented towards two world axis and offer the modularity for dividing living spaces into smaller rooms. However, we also focused on the surrounding area of the house and designed its layout so that the residents could make use of the space around the house and it would not be just residual space that the municipality has to maintain. The massing solution is designed in accordance the surrounding buildings and context. On one side, the house is framed by a three-story modernist elementary school, while on the other side, across the street, the house has low neighbors. Therefore, the silhouette of the house adapts to these neighbors and behaves like a house with a sloping roof towards the street, while towards the school, the house has three full floors. The size of the openings on the facade is based on the modernist ribbon windows on the school building in combination with the division of smaller window openings on the surrounding family houses.
